Unified Carrier Registration
Unified Carrier Registration
What is UCR?
Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is an annual fee imposed on all companies who operate commercial motor carrier business in Interstate commerce. This program replaced the old Single State Registration System (SSRS) where fees were paid based on areas of travel by your company. Companies are required to register their business with a participating state and pay an annual fee based on the size of their fleet. This includes ALL carriers – private, exempt, and for hire. Brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies are also required to pay a fee.
How much is the UCR Fee?
The UCR is not prorated. No matter when in the year you start your business, the fee will always be the same.

What if I don’t pay my UCR?
Failure to pay the UCR will greatly hurt your business. If you drive through a port of entry that participates in the UCR, and have not paid the fee, USDOT officers will pull your truck off the road immediately and you will be detained until the UCR is paid. Other fees and fines may also be imposed on your company. Don’t let this fee stop you from delivering your loads on time or ruin your businesses reputation.
When will I receive notification that my UCR is due?
You may or may not receive notification that your UCR fees are due. Some states will send out notifications and other states opt out of mailing anything out. It is your responsibility to be aware that these fees are due and to take care of them. The states view ignorance of the due date as no excuse for failure to file. Do not let this slip by and hurt your business. Interstate Transportation Consulting is here to get this document filed for you and keep your business operating. Contact us today (801) 972-6033 and we will remind you of all upcoming due dates and fees awaiting you.
